Paul Stopforth

Anderson Gallery

August 23 - October 15, 2018

The formal aspects of my work have undergone significant changes that correspond to increasingly sophisticated technical insights into the use and manipulation of gouache and color. I have slowly suspended the narrative context of my search for meaning in favor of pictorial structures that emphasize the use of color.

May Day: International Workers Day

Maxwell Library, 3rd. floor

August 6 - December 12, 2018

The first of May has a long and notable history as one of the world's first principal festivals. Over the past century, May Day has come to acquire new meaning by becoming a day to celebrate the labor class. This exhibition of poster, handbills and broadsheets illustrates this celebration.

Randy Swann

Maxwell Library, 2nd floor

August 17 - December 14, 2018

Over the past three years, I’ve begun making paintings of urban landscape, particularly in the so-called “Gateway Cities” of Massachusetts. Places like Lowell, Brockton, Taunton, Fall River, and, of course, New Bedford. Shadows of old architectural details, cobblestone byways, brightly painted storefronts, and other survivors of the past offer intriguing mash-ups of not only subject matter, but color, shape and forms. These are the puzzles I long to solve in my paintings.

Elizabeth Kendall

Anderson Gallery

October 22 - December 04, 2018

Blending family memories with current experiences, Elizabeth Kendall creates simple, graceful sculptures. She works with lush white porcelain, raw wood, rigid steel, or vibrant glass. Her abstract wall pieces and vessels are both delicate and strong, simple and complex.
