Wallace L. Anderson gallery is committed to supporting the educational and cultural mission of Bridgewater State University and will serve as a laboratory for the production, exhibition, and critical discussion of works by living artists. This mission is dedicated to fostering the understanding of works of art, and to stimulate appreciation for and advance the knowledge of art at the highest possible museum and scholarly standards.
The Anderson is focused on creating compelling educational opportunities for students of all ages, while participating actively in the academic life of the University and in developing interdisciplinary programs for the study and interpretation of the arts. This is accomplished by selecting exhibitions which are based on artistic excellence; diversity of aesthetic traditions; attention to the cultural diversity represented within the university demographics; correlation to academic programs; and the educational potential of exhibitions, lectures, and publications.
The Bridgewater State University is committed to excellence in every aspect of its collections and programs, and drawing on both new and traditional tools of communication, interpretation, and presentation, the Anderson aims to serve its diverse public as a dynamic, innovative, and welcoming center for learning through the visual arts.
Statement of Curatorial Philosophy
My goal is to establish an environment of learning, enrichment and inspiration with exhibitions that illuminate the direct relationship between the Arts and Ideas. In this pursuit, I am primarily concerned with exhibitions which are based upon a diversity of medium, concept and artistic style. It is my hope that this will act as a catalyst for the broader understanding and exploration of ideas across cultural and visual boundaries.
